Vienna is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Spend a week in this capital of culture and discover Vienna's many facets and treasures. A long-time capital of the Holy Roman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, Vienna retained its imperial splendors and cultural importance. Marvel at the architectural ensemble of the eclectic Ringstraße, and see how the Habsburg family lived as you walk through the imperial apartments at Hofburg Palace. At the Prater, the daring may go for a ride on the iconic Giant Ferris Wheel, featured in the film noir classic ‚The Third Man'. Vienna is also the capital of music – the city was home to famous composers such as Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. Enjoy a philharmonic concert in the Baroque Orangerie of Schonbrunn Palace. As Europe's cultural center over centuries, Vienna is home to some of the world's greatest art collections. Here you find masterpieces of Art Nouveau and Expressionism, most famously Klimt's painting ‚The Kiss'. And finally, Vienna is the capital of patisserie and coffee house culture. Have a piece of chocolate cake in one of Vienna's traditional cafés, where poets and artists used to meet.
A Yale Week in Vienna wouldn't be complete without a special treat: The Museum of Art History will open its doors on a closing day just for us! You will have the chance to speak with the curators as they present the highlights of the Greco-Roman collection exclusively to you.
Post-trip extension: Budapest, Hungary.
